Andy: LOL! you&#039;re right, I used to love the stuff. It&#039;s a Chi Gong (Hochi) thing.  Had to stop garlic and onions for 100 days (this was over 10 years ago) and then they just tasted gross to me and felt awful.  Now I&#039;m eating some onions again but still am not crazy about garlic.

In this system, garlic and onions (and all other members of the family) pull negative chi (energy) from the universe.  If you eat meat, they say, you need to have garlic/onions to pull out the negative chi from that.  (Ginger does the same for fish.)  But if you don&#039;t eat meat, then eating garlic/onions just puts negative chi into you.  I could really feel that when I was actively practicing Hochi, but not so much anymore.

Some Indians have the same philosophy.  I&#039;m not sure if the underlying reasoning is the same, but they do not eat garlic &amp; onions for spiritual reasons.  It is very similar to the Hochi (from Taoism) rules I learned.

Whether you believe the above or not, lots of people all over the world do find a reason to avoid the onion family.  And I could really tell the difference, even when someone close to me had eaten it (not the smell; the energy was off).</description>
